240 layer twisted Damascus steel, hand forged into this lovely, useful kitchen utility knife.

The Damascus was forge welded in house, using a #6 fly press.  Beginning with 3 layers of 1080 and 15n20, it was drawn out, cut into 5 and restacked to 30 layers.  Drawn out again and then cut into 8 and restacked for a total of 240 

After twisting the Damascus it was squared down to a bar around 20mm x 10mm

It's from this bar, a piece was cut, then forged into the blade, integral bolster and tang

Post-forging everything was carefully shaped by filing, grinding and sanding.

After the heat treating was done it was finally time to etch the blade and see the pattern!

The handle is made from Purpleheart Wood and is the first time I've ever tried doming a brass spacer like this.  I really like the way it turned out!
